c_800_300_16777215_00_images_tours_vl_11-1.jpg The Golden Horn is a long bay north of the Eastern Bosphorus strait of the Sea of Japan. Vladivostok is located on the shores of this bay.

At first this bay had a Chinese name Haishenwei. In 1859 a governor-general of Eastern Siberia Nikolay Muravyov-Amursky paid attention to a well-covered bay while going round the Peter the Great Gulf shores. It reminded him of the Golden Horn bay in Istanbul, which is why he offered to call it in the same way. He also gave the command to found a military outpost on the shore of the bay that was later named Vladivostok. This is why this bay is not only an eye-catching spot but also the place where the history of the city started.

Nowadays commercial, fishing, passenger ports and also a ship-repairing yard are situated here. This place is protected from winds and is suitable for berthing. The Golden bridge over the bay was built in 2012, so it is not a problem to get there from the city. This is a cable-stayed bridge called Zolotoy (Golden).

Beauty of the Golden Horn charms both in the daytime and at night. The marine passenger terminal located here is often visited by tourists. This is one of the most favorite places for taking photos among residents and guests of the city.
